Car storage here

Vancouver does not have a long snow season, so car storage here is less about winter and more about space: condo parking, a car kept while living abroad, or a weekend car that is driven rarely.

It is the most expensive market in Canada for car storage. Burnaby, Richmond and Surrey usually cost less than the city itself.

Street and driveway rules

Why a car that sits for months is better off in storage here. Summaries of official city pages, October 2026.

  • A vehicle without valid insurance may not be parked on streets or lanes. A vehicle can be treated as abandoned if it has no licence, insurance or plates, or has been parked on a street for more than 14 days (Street and Traffic By-law 2849; Impounding By-law 13709, as cited by the city). source
  • ICBC: if you cancel your insurance, the plates go back to an Autoplan broker and the refund depends on the time left. source

Rules change. Check the city page before you rely on them. This is not legal advice.
